What if booking a taxi was as easy as sending a WhatsApp message?

That simple question became the starting point for Taxibooker. The idea was born in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when taxi companies faced empty streets and passengers turned to digital channels for everything. We saw an opportunity: give local taxi operators the same convenience people already use every day.

Today Taxibooker gives local taxi companies three extra booking channels — WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger — on top of their existing dispatch system. Instead of relying only on calls or street pick-ups, operators meet passengers where they already are: in their chats.

Our team understands both the business and the technology: 30 years in taxi dispatch, telecom and IT, going back to the first digital dispatch system at TCA Amsterdam in 1996. Our vision is clear: help taxi operators everywhere grow with smart, simple and reliable booking tools.

Our journey

From one idea to fleets across Europe

Every company starts with a simple idea. Ours has grown into an AI-powered booking platform that helps local operators stay competitive — and it is about more than technology: it is about giving taxi companies the tools to grow, connect with passengers and stay strong in a changing market.

1. 2020

   From concept to solution

   The idea for Taxibooker was born during the COVID-19 pandemic, when taxi companies needed smarter ways to reach passengers. Our goal was clear: empower local operators through the messaging apps passengers already use — WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger. In mid-2020 we started building the first version.

2. 2021

   Pitch and proof of concept

   In October 2021 we pitched Taxibooker at TCA Taxi in Amsterdam and proved the concept in practice: passengers booking a local taxi with a simple WhatsApp message.

3. 2022

   First launch in Amsterdam

   In February 2022 Taxibooker went live with TCA Taxi in Amsterdam. Our goal was 500 bookings per month — we reached it in just two weeks.

   The launch showed how quickly WhatsApp booking gains traction: passengers preferred booking a local taxi company with a simple message over relying only on traditional platforms or private hire apps. Proven in one of Europe's most competitive taxi markets, it opened the way to integrations with leading dispatch systems.

4. 2023

   Recognition and international expansion

   At the start of 2023, together with our technology partner, we received the Frost & Sullivan Enabling Technology Leadership Award for innovation in conversational AI for taxi booking.

   We expanded our plug-in to new dispatch platforms and found that local taxi operators face the same challenges all over Europe. In August the first dispatch outside the Netherlands joined, in Germany, soon followed by Belgium.

5. 2024

   A growing network — and AI at the core

   More taxi dispatches joined, in the Netherlands and abroad, with Austria becoming part of the Taxibooker family.

   It was also the year of the first Taxibooker version with LLM (Large Language Model) integration, so the platform adapts faster to different languages, cultures and passenger behaviour.

6. 2025

   SmartNotifier and new marketing tools

   We made it even easier to get started. SmartNotifier sends branded WhatsApp updates to passengers who book by phone, with SMS (RCS) as fallback — a simple add-on that leading dispatch platforms connect to effortlessly.

   LLM technology became the standard across Taxibooker, Taxibooker Marketing brought WhatsApp broadcast campaigns to operators, and our integrations grew with platforms such as Autocab and Sherlock.

7. 2026

   Where we are now

   Since 20 October 2026, Taxibooker and its technology platform Taxibot.ai are operated by Taxibooker B.V., headquartered in Naarden, the Netherlands.

   We are finalising a completely new version of Taxibooker, built on the latest AI and LLM insights — easier to adapt to each operator, better for passengers and ready to scale. New countries are joining, including the UK, Switzerland and Spain, and a new pricing model lets us handle Meta's messaging costs per country, making it simpler and more cost-effective for local taxi companies everywhere to join.
